U-shaped Hanging Valley near Spiez, Switzerland

Spiez, Switzerland

Spiez, Switzerland

A U-shaped hanging valley photographed on the train between Spiez and Interlaken, Switzerland. This is the classic shape of a glacier-cut valley (as opposed to V-shaped valleys, cut by rivers, or Y-shaped, cut by rivers, uplifted, and cut again). The left side looks like it’s been infilled by a bit of colluvium (landslides), but I couldn’t investigate to confirm.
